Welcome - Vision - Goals

Cox & Cook There's little doubt that this is one of the most exhilarating times to work in the field of public health. The traditional view of medicine which centered around diagnosing problems and treating conditions is giving way to a health care model that encourages health care providers to partner with consumers and communities to emphasize healthier lifestyle choices and better self-care.

The University of Kansas Medical Center has been at the forefront of innovative public health for decades. With the 2008 launch of the Institute of Community and Public Health, the Medical Center continues its commitment to public health by making strides to becoming a primary resource to support statewide public health programs and policies in Kansas.

The Institute of Community and Public Health brings together four outstanding departments at KU Medical Center: Preventive Medicine and Public Health Kansas City; Preventive Medicine and Public Health Wichita; Biostatistics; and Health Policy and Management. While these four departments have been working together for a number of years, this Institute provides for a more intense and productive collaboration around education, research and clinical programs that benefit all Kansans.

We hope you and your community will join us as we continue to improve the health of Kansans.
